Green Wave Project: YEFW Batch 1 Wrap-Up

Things have been busy behind the scenes at Su Way Yar, but the team is back with a new initiative: the Green Wave Project. From August 8 to 10, Su Way Yar hosted the very first Youth Eco-Facilitator Workshop (YEFW) in Yangon, bringing together 16 participants ages 18 to 25 to build the knowledge and confidence needed to lead environmental sessions in local communities.

The first two days focused on environmental fundamentals alongside training on how to teach others. Participants covered facilitation skills tips and tricks, volunteerism, and “Do No Harm” safeguarding practices for working with children, then dug into waste segregation, carbon footprints, and the 3Rs — essential concepts and practical ways to reduce personal impact on environmental pollution.

On the final day, the group headed to Hayyamone (ဟေရမုန်) Urban Organic Farm in Mingaladon Township for a one-day practice trip. It gave participants space to experience an active eco-setting firsthand and get involved in hands-on activities, including seed ball making and container planting.

Having completed all three days of YEFW, these 16 trained facilitators are moving on to the Environmental Hero Workshop (EHW). The next phase involves visiting schools with limited access to environmental education, running interactive sessions for students aged 12 to 14 — giving young volunteers practical field experience while sharing essential green knowledge with the next generation.
